Second life skal kunne findes nemmere

15 10 2008

/by Speedmaster Bing

Read the rest of this entry »

3D scanner to expensive? use a webcam

13 10 2008

/by Speedmaster Bing

One of the fun things about virtual words is the possibility of having a avatar, that is completely made up.
You can be a strange creature, robot or something else. But what if you need to represent yourself as you look in the real world? Or you want a copy of a real object in a virtual world, or 3D shape in an animated movie?

Danish SL Viewer coming soon

7 10 2008

/by Claus Uriza

While attending Metanomics weekly show yesterday a friend forwarded me an IM from a Linden worker asking for help in the translation for a coming Danish SL viewer. About an hour later Ms. Linden TP’d and I hooked up with another Dane Tue Torok who has done 80% of the translation already. So all we need for now is finishing the last 20%, adjust, test and try to find the right Danish words for every little single detail. This morning I started testing the viewer and actually I don’t think I will ever use it hehe. I’m too stuck in the English but surely this will be very helpfull for the Danish SL community.
What the Lindens also told me was a coming German and French viewer on its way - that’s cool!
It looks like SL will hit the European market once again very soon.
I can’t wait hehe…

Nabucco Island: RL advertising in SL

1 10 2008

/ by Sky Light
Here is another, interesting example of an interfacing between real-life and second-life.

In this instance, Raymond Weil Geneve is promoting its Nabucco range of fine wrist-watches on an island of the same name, Nabucco Island. This is not a garish hard-sell. This is an artistic creation in 3-D, nicely done. To see this with full effects, follow the (current) link about Second Life from the Raymond Weil Geneve home-page.

Pink Floyd reunion tour

29 09 2008

/by Speedmaster Bing

I hadn’t given much tought to what I could expect, Pop Art lab (PAL) send a lot of group messages inviting to this event. And since I had the pleasure to meet Claus Uriza in real life a few days ago, I decided to attend the event.
Logged in about an hour early and joined the party at PAL. I had the feeling it was a good idea, at it turned out it was. Laureen Korhonen warmed up as a DJ, before it was time to hit the teleport and go to the stage. Little was I , and my PC prepared for what came next.

Spatial Computing: 8 years gone, and still not there

27 09 2008

/by Speedmaster Bing
Apx. 8 years ago, company i worked in had a sales movie, from Nokia, showing off what the mobile world would come to.
My boss had high hopes in selling Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services to companies. But mobile phone was such a hassle for people to get on-line, and the screen on phone was way to small.

Anyway, Nokia video basically showed your mobile phone had replaced, your wallet/plastic cards, camera, GPS, your favourite online 3D gaming platform, postcards, written letters, even your keys to doors and cars.

Our honoured guest at Roskilde University, Professor Robert Bloomfield was interviewed by the Danish media today (DR2 Udland) about economics in virtual worlds / Second Life.
Robert Bloomfield, also known as “Beyer Sellers” in Second Life from the Metanomics

It’s Not Information Overload. It’s Filter Failure.

22 09 2008

/by Speedmaster Bing

Not a real problem in virtual worlds yet, but like other media it’s only a matter of time.
And with content creators control expanding in virtual worlds, it will be even harder to control what kind of info, you will receive and get exposed to.

At the Web 2.0 Expo last week, Technologist Clay Shirky argues that information overload isn’t a new problem: it’s really a failure of information filters. Clay argues it has been like that for 500 years, so not news to most of us.

Star Trek’s Holodeck Becoming a Reality (micoy technology)

21 09 2008

/by Heidi Ballinger
Now you can create Omni-3D imagery with Micoy technology!

I truly love Sci-Fictions, and not to mention “HOLODECK” (which I have been using a lot in Second Life for my buildings and designs).

At TechCrunch50 I talked with the guys from Micoy. They had placed a huge dome on the floor, and inside this dome they have created a 3D technology that lets you walk around and interact in a 3D virtual environment.

USTREAM.tv – an easy way to live-stream

20 09 2008

/by Heidi Ballinger
Ustream.tv was one of the service partners at TechCrunch50 – and I was very impressed about their services.

We have lately invested in a streaming server at the University, but even through you cost hundred of thousand of dollars in your own server I don’t think you will get the same quality like you do with Ustream.tv
With this system you are not limited to 30-100 people – this will give you the opportunity to stream out to thousands (millions) of people.

Ustream.tv was launched in March 2007 and they have grown to nearly 500.000 registered users broadcasting over 8.000-10.000 live shows a day.
And it’s able to embed the personalized Ustream-channel into any website.

So, in a short way, Ustream.tv is a interactive broadcasting tool that enables anyone with a camera and an internet connection to easily broadcast to a global audience of any size at any places.

Websketch! - your web, your way

20 09 2008

/by Heidi Ballinger
At TechCrunch50 I talked with David Strakhovsky from the company Websketch!
Websketchs beta had a booth in the demo-pit, and I had a good talk with David.

The past 15 years we have seen many attempts to create an intelligent webpage-tool to create your own webpage’s with, and Websketch is some of the most interesting tools I have seen so far.

Websketch is where you express yourself in ways possible today only with web designers or engineers. Freely create a webpage that’s totally you – pics, videos etc.

The only thing I miss about this tool is the opportunity to create a blogfunction on the different pages on your site, but David told me that this was an application they have planned to launch in the near future.
- and when this function is available I will re-design my page with this tool – without any doubt.

Animoto.com

16 09 2008

/by Heidi Ballinger

Animoto (the real winner of TechCrunch50)

YOU GOT TO TRY THIS!
Right now I’m working on a huge postblog about all my experiences from TechCrunch50 (I have so much to tell about all the ideas and companies).

But, I talked with Animoto.com at the conference. They were not one of the 52 companies who could win the price (sadly), but they had a fairbooth with info about their product.
And Animoto is my winner of TechCrunch50.

The system is so very easy to use (this short demo I just showed you only took about 5 minutes to create and upload), and the quality could be even better if I used some time to find some high quality pictures.
This is free to use, very simple and I am amazed!

I will write more detailed about them in my big blogpost about TechCrunch50 (just needed to show you this).

I love The guys at Animoto! Awesome awesome tool. Read the rest of this post and watch other test from Animoto; Read the rest of this entry »

Report from a very successful PAL opening

7 09 2008

/by Claus Uriza

Pop Art Lab are almost through its weekend opening and what a thrill. We opened Friday eve and within short time the dancefloor was filled and 50-60 avis partied wildly. Two hours later Led Zeppelin concert kicked off and about 70-100 avis saw an awesome high quality performance with superior music and lightshow settings.
Let’s take a short break and look at the statics. Well PAL went in a timely fashion when Linden luckily picked up PAL in its showcase. Suddenly friday afternoon PAL was on front page of music showcases and people kept coming in. During first 24 hours PAL had appr. 300 visitors! The total amount although from start of PAL months ago is up at almost 5000 now. We increased the PAL group from 100 till 200 members during the opening so far.

Pop Art Lab officially launch its opening the 5th of Sept.

2 09 2008

/by Claus Uriza

I finally thought its about time to celebrate ½ years of work of gettin Pop Art Lab up runnin stable.
I earlier blogged about setting all this up but here’s a little reminder.
Pop Art Lab presents all new and best cds released on market through 4 streams into 4 musicrooms. All cds are streamed full length in 128 Kbs normally 2-3 days 24/7.
My mentor recently joined the Cutting Edge Productions which is a company hosting some of the most spectacular concerts in world at the moment. So why not get some kick ass rock from my all time faves Led Zeppelin! Ofcos’ it’s a tribute band but handpicked by some of the best musicians in SL. Usually concerts like these crash sims so we set up a giant bridge from PAL and made a PAL Sea stage in the center of 4 sims so hopefully we can host 100-200 avis.

LivePlace - is this for real?
